Cabbage with peas - Bandgobi Matar - Glutenfree



Ingredients
  1. Cabbage - 1/2 head( remove the core and chop it finely lengthwise)
  2. Frozen peas-1 cup
  3. Ginger-  2 teaspoons grated.
  4. Garlic- 4 pods crushed
  5. Carom seeds( ajwain)-1/4 teaspoon
  6. Salt - 1 teaspoon
  7. Tumeric-1/2 teaspoon
  8. Red chilli powder-1 teaspoon( I use degi mirch)
  9. Garam masala-1 teaspoon
  10. Oil-1 tablespoon
Method

  1. Heat the pan . Add oil.
  2. When the oil becomes moderately hot add ginger and garlic.Add carom seeds when the garlic and ginger turrns light golden color.
  3. Add frozen peas and let them cook from 1 to 2 minutes. As soon as they start becoming soft , add chopped cabbage. Fold cabbage with peas nicely.
  4. Add salt, tumeric and red chilli powder. The cabbage will start sweating once you add the salt.
  5. Cover the pan with a lid and lower the heat to medium. Let it cook in its steam for 5 minutes. You may check after 2 minutes and stir it lightly so that it does not stick the bottom.
  6. Open the lid after 5 minutes. The cabbage will be soft but not mushy. Do not put the lid again.
  7. If there is any water that will evaporate now.
  8. Add and mix garam masala.
  9. Cabbage with peas is ready to serve as a side dish.
Note:

  1. Cabbage has the tendency to create gas and make you feel bloated.  Carom seeds, garlic and ginger will take care of that.
  2. Be careful with carom seeds. If you put more than the prescribed amount of carom seeds , the dish will become bitter.
  3. Do not add any water to this dish at any point.This will cook in its own steam.
