Cabbage with peas - Bandgobi Matar - Glutenfree
Ingredients
- Cabbage - 1/2 head( remove the core and chop it finely lengthwise)
- Frozen peas-1 cup
- Ginger- 2 teaspoons grated.
- Garlic- 4 pods crushed
- Carom seeds( ajwain)-1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Tumeric-1/2 teaspoon
- Red chilli powder-1 teaspoon( I use degi mirch)
- Garam masala-1 teaspoon
- Oil-1 tablespoon
- Heat the pan . Add oil.
- When the oil becomes moderately hot add ginger and garlic.Add carom seeds when the garlic and ginger turrns light golden color.
- Add frozen peas and let them cook from 1 to 2 minutes. As soon as they start becoming soft , add chopped cabbage. Fold cabbage with peas nicely.
- Add salt, tumeric and red chilli powder. The cabbage will start sweating once you add the salt.
- Cover the pan with a lid and lower the heat to medium. Let it cook in its steam for 5 minutes. You may check after 2 minutes and stir it lightly so that it does not stick the bottom.
- Open the lid after 5 minutes. The cabbage will be soft but not mushy. Do not put the lid again.
- If there is any water that will evaporate now.
- Add and mix garam masala.
- Cabbage with peas is ready to serve as a side dish.
- Cabbage has the tendency to create gas and make you feel bloated. Carom seeds, garlic and ginger will take care of that.
- Be careful with carom seeds. If you put more than the prescribed amount of carom seeds , the dish will become bitter.
- Do not add any water to this dish at any point.This will cook in its own steam.
