Besan Cheela - Chickpea flour/ Garbanzo beans flour savory pancakes - Gluten free







Ingredients:

  1. Gram flour( Besan)  - 1 cup
  2. Onion -1/2 medium (finely chopped)
  3. Serrano Pepper - 1 (finely chopped)
  4. Cilantro- 2 table spoons( Finely chopped)
  5. Cumin seeds- 1 teaspoon
  6. Salt - 1 teaspoon
  7. Red chilli flakes- 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Water - 1 cup
  9.  Canola Oil - 2 tablespoons
  10. Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon (optional)

Method:
  1. In a big bowl, add gram flour, onion, serrano pepper, cilantro , cumin seeds,salt, redchilli flakes and italian seasoning. Mix it well .
  2. Add half a cup of water and mix well . Slowly 1 tablesppon of water at a time so that consistency reaches the pancake consistency or cake batter consistency. A good check is that when you drop a spoon full of batter from a height into a plate , it should fall as a ribbon. Cover it and leave it in the refrigerator for 2 hour. This will help all the ingredients to blend well with each other.
  3.  Take out from the refrigerator and leaver it on the kitchen counter for 5 to 10 minutes till the batter comes to the room temperature.At this pointmix the batter again and check for consistency.
  4.  Heat a griddle and put two drops of oil on its surface. Wipe it off. If you are using a non stick griddle , you do not need this step.  Turn down the heat to medium high. Put two tablespoons of batter on the griddle and keep rotating clockwise till it becomes a big circle.  Let it cook for 2- 3 minutes. Brush the crepe with oil lightly and turn the side.Cook the other side till you get golden specs.
  5. Serve it with green chutney , tomato ketchup or mango picke.
Note:  

  1.  You may  have to adjust the water depending upon the courseness of gram flour. If it is very smooth, you will need less water . You may need extra water if the ground gramflour is a bit course.
  2. Gram flour is  also called chickpea flour or garbanzo flour .
  3. You may avoid oil alltogether. It can be eaten as healthy breakfast or snack.
